Lightweight Fourth Round

Luis Federico Thompson 39-3 (18) vs Jimmy Paul 17-5 (10)

Thompson was dominating the opening round with strong hooks to the body and head when Paul shot a right hand down the chute that floored Luis for a six count in the closing seconds of the round. Federico out-worked him in the second but Paul nearly closed the show in round three hurting the Argentinean several times with his right hand that started some swelling under Federico's left eye.

As the rounds wore on, the power of 'The Ringmaster' was the deciding factor, he dropped Luis again in round nine with a right hand and closed strong to secure an impressive UD. 109-116, 110-115 & 111-115

Joe Gans 39-3 (26) vs Juan Lazcano 31-11-2 (18)

Joe Gans marched into Mexico and emphatically put an end to this string of upsets. Lazcano's grit enabled him to last the distance, but he absorbed a terrible beating and was dropped three times on the way to the wide UD for Joe. 119-106 x2 & 118-107

Baby Arizmendi 41-4 (7) vs Enrique Bolanos 19-3 (12)

Arizmendi's speedy combinations carved up Bolanos face, opening a terrible gash over his left eye in round one and steadily closing his right with swift left hands. The wounds eventually caused a halt to the surprisingly one sided contest in round eleven.

Edwin Valero 38-5 (28) vs Rocky Kansas 20-1-1 (9)

Kansas expertly played the matador in the opening round, sticking Edwin with his southpaw jab and alluding the wild bombs of his foe. The first two minutes of round two were the same until Edwin cracked Rocky with an uppercut that put him down for a six count, Valero attacked with a vengeance and with ten seconds left in the round a devastating left hand crashed into Kansas' chin and left him motionless for the ten count.
