Wish I would have seen this first. I have a Compaq Presario 7478 that my son uses for OOTP. I had Windows 98SE when I first installed OOTP5. The sound worked fine. Then, when my son played several years into his career, the game slowed WAY down and the sound quit working. I have a small amount of computer knowledge but cannot find anyway to get the sound working again. In the past week, I have upgraded to XP added RAM (went from 128 to 312) and unfortunately added the SB PCI512 card (done the scandisk/defrag, disabled all background programs, etc). I have a 533 processer with a large hard drive (20 gig or so free). The sound card that came with the computer was junk (in my opinion) so I thought a SB card would probably work. I don't know of any reason that it shouldn't.

I hope OOTP ditches the sound altogether (even though i love it) if it won't work anymore reliably than this. There are way too many users who have trouble to say "just turn off the sound". This issue has been "swept under the rug" more than any issue I have ever seen with .400.

I am a big fan of .400 and will probably buy anything they put out but this whole sound issue is very frustrating.
