Round 1 Preview
MarVa Conference
Annapolis Admirals vs Norfolk Cavaliers
This is our 2nd playoff appearance, our first one was 2 years ago, when we won the Championship. I am hoping for a repeat performance, but we have some obstacles in our way. The Admirals are making their second playoff appearance, first since their first round exit in 2013. They are hungry to prove they aren't a fluke, we are hungry since we will be going into rebuilding next year, due to our finances.
We will be carrying 12 pitches and 13 position players. That leaves us only 4 players on the bench, but with a DH it shouldn't pose any issues this round. Augusto Rodriquez will be given the starting spot at shortstop and Gilberto Ramos will be our first basemen. We truly are missing Pablo Freitas and Mauro Candelaria. We go in with a very weak bench, Cody Johnson (.184-1-13) Mason Foster, who went 5-10, Julio Romero (.262-5-27) and Pat Shelton (.198-2-18). Not very scary at all... We will be going with a 4 man rotation and we are all set-up with Don Sweetapple getting the nod in Game 1, Carlos Mateo in Game 2, Jose Matos in Game 3, and Karl Armstrong in game 4... I like our chances against Annappolis, as long as we can score. Steve Williams (.356-32-110) and Alberto Trujillo (.279-46-117) are the biggest threats for the Admirals and we will have to be very careful pitching to them.
Delaware Conference:
Dover Generals vs. New Castle Colonials
Pits two teams coming into the playoffs red-hot. I like the New Castle Colonials to take this, but the pitching of the Generals should make it a fun series. The Colonials are a young team that has been on the cusp of greatness for a couple of years, this season it all seemed to come together the final month. Prediction: New Castle in 6
Don't be surprised if both of these Series go 7.
