I'd argue baseball is actually more popular than hockey worldwide. I've always lived in the states, but I don't imagine hockey has much of a presence in Asia, Africa, South America, or the Caribbean. Baseball has popularity somewhere in every inhabited continent. Heck, hockey is basically nonexistent in the southern United States.
