Just about all my previous games I've taken done the quickstart, taken over the Padres, and managed every game. I've had issues with save files corrupting those games, so rather than starting one of those over again (plus as much as I like control I don't like after how much time I've put in I'm only 3 seasons in) I decided to try a different setup.
What I'm currently doing and liking very much so far is a fictional league with normal MLB setup, though the teams are a little different. Stats are a 2-8 scale with only potential, no current, and no overall ratings. The other things like fielding and baserunning are 1-10. I've given full control of lineups, rotations, and bullpen to my manager. Same for all my minor league teams. I'm in charge of everything else. It's definitely a different experience than what I have been doing but I like it a lot so far. Since it's fictional (and since I sim every game seasons go by quickly) I love being able to watch the league's history evolve.
