David made four dominant defenses, icing Magomed Abdusalamov in 3, winning a wide UD12 over Matt Skelton and stopping Alex Leapai & Alexander Dimitrenko in five rounds a piece.
2. Mike Perez (World Champion)....Cuba....52-10-3 (35)
Mike started the year with a UD12 over Marco Huck and then, in an emotional battle, he rolled into Moscow and dethroned Sultan Ibragimov with a UD12 in an excellent fight that saw his long time pursuit of a title rewarded. Perez managed two defenses, a UD12 over Rene Dettweiler and a tough draw with Mark De Mori whom he will rematch in April.
3. Calvin Brock....USA....29-2 (23)
Calvin had a huge year, going 5-0 with wins over Grabus Zulfedin(KO7), Chris Arreola(UD12), Steve Cunningham(UD12), Denis Boytsov(TKO6) and a fortunate TKO11 via cuts over former champion Sultan Ibragimov in a fight he was badly outclassed in.
4. Sultan Ibragimov....Russia....30-2-1 (21)
Sultan sandwiched the losses to Perez & Brock with a tough SD12 over Seth Mitchell in a fight that saw both of them on the canvas.
5. Tony Thompson (IBO)....USA....27-0-1 (16)
Four dominant defenses for 'The Tiger' over Alexander Povetkin(UD12), Odlanier Solis(TKO4), Eric Kirkland(TKO9) & JD Chapman(UD12). There is talk of Tony trying to challenge for one of the more prestigious titles next year.
6. Alexander Povetkin....Russia....42-7-1 (27)
After Perez won the title, Povetkin is probably the most accomplished fighter to never capture gold. After his loss to Thompson he reeled off three in a row to get back in the picture, Gregory Tony(KO9), David Cadieux(TKO4) & Arreola(TKO7)
7. Magomed Abdusalamov....Russia....46-9-2 (33)
After being stopped by Haye, Magomed also was beaten by Boytsov(TKO by4) before picking up a win over Johann Duhaupas(KO9).
8. Seth Mitchell....USA....48-9 (40)
Seth beat Manuel Quezada(TKO10) & Martin Rogan(UD10) before the tough loss to Ibragimov.
9. Denis Boytsov....Russia....36-5-1 (25)
Denis blitzed Robert Helenius(KO2) & lost to Fabio Maldonado(LUD10) before splitting his fights with Abdusalamov & Brock.
10. Chris Arreola....USA....32-5-1 (28)
Chris beat Michael Alexander(UD10) & Yanqui Diaz(KO3) to go with his disappointing losses to Brock and Povetkin.
