Here has been my experience. I downloaded build 1.4.19 right after it was released and began playing in "historical" mode beginning in 1947. Although I had checked the "cannot be fired" box when beginning the game, a couple of times in the 1960's, and then almost every year in the 1970's, I am "unemployed" come July 1. Until now, I had been able to "take over" my previous team and keep playing. However, after the 1974-75 season, when I attempted to "take over" and continue as before, the game just crashed (several times). I downloaded 1.5.20 and attempted this again in order to continue playing the same game, but got the same result. Frustrating.
