A Look Back

This off-season and season has seen a flurry of trades and now that its the All-Star Break I thought we should look back and all the players we parted with and see how they are doing...

Off-Season Deals:
For Cooper Mananghaya and Jamie King
Brian Cline, New Castle Colonials
74 Games / .316-14-35 (All-Star)
Steven Wilson, New Castle Colonials (#17)
8 Games / .300-2-5 (Major League Debut 07/08/2016)

Cline has enjoyed playing full-time as as Jose Rodriquez, seems that both of these guys were due to break out, and if they were still together in Norfolk (NFK) they would be sharing time... I am surprised to see Steven Wilson reach the majors so quickly, he was called up from AA. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the year pans out for him.

For Luis Deleon (#7) and Eisse Bookelman
Carlos Rodriquez, Lewes Braves
25 Games / 1-3 4.45 11 Saves
Esteban Sandoval, Lewes Braves
46 Games / .231-3-12 (Major League Debut 04/26/2016)

Carlos was costing us too much and Dalton Whitaker has made us forget him and his salary. Rodriquez did miss a month with an injury, but he seems to be throwing the ball well in his return... Sandoval was a throw in and I am very surprised to see him in the majors.

For Pat Hall and Kent Davis
Tony Soto, Baltimore Barons
80 Games / .309-10-44 (All-Star)
Elliot Bean, Baltimore Barons
28 Games / 1-2 5.50 3 Saves
Jeremy Jones, Baltimore Barons (#68)
87 Games / .291-6-40 (A)
Gabriel Santos, Baltimore Barons (#14)
2 Games / 1-1 9.82 (AA)
17 Games / 5-5 4.02 (A)

We gave up too much with this deal, but Kent Davis is going to be around a few years and he could be one of the leagues premier contact hitters. Soto is an All-Star and from the looks of it he has stepped up his defense. Santos and Jones were keys to deal, and they should have promising careers.

For Ivan Pineda
Edgar Matsuda, Annapolis Admirals
9 games / 0-0 4.42
Fillippio Morone, Annapolis Admirals (#134)
25 Games / .263-0-9 (Major League Debut 04/09/2016)

This was a steal. Pineda struggled at the beginning of the season, but has done well since. Matsuda just didn't fit in with my philosophy. Seeing Morone in the majors boggles my mind. I am pretty sure he wouldn't of ever made the roster in NFK. Glad to see him get his cup of coffee.

For Adrian Otero and Dan Nelson (#146)
Chistopher Shopland, Baltimore Barons
54 Games / .239-1-14

Shopland never became the 'star' we envisioned, and he hasn't done much with Baltimore. He has been up and down with AAA this season as he has struggled at the big league level. Otero has been hurt most of the seasons, but this was a great deal for us.

For Jose Escamilla
Jose Villa, Annapolis Admirals
17 Games / 10-5 3.38 (All-Star)

The fact that Jose Villa changed from MR to starter and is now an All-Star shocks me. He has struggled the past 2 months and I have feeling he won't be in the rotation by seasons end. This one will be an interesting one to revisit. Escamilla has been solid for us in the IF, and has put up adequate numbers. I would make this trade 10 out of 10 times.

For Cody Johnson and Derek Carter (#150)
Joe Payne, Annapolis Admirals
80 Games / .290-7-25
Scott Smith, Annapolis Admirals
19 Games / 4-1 3.55

Joe Payne has been great for the Admirals, he is back to putting up numbers he put up with us 2 years ago. The change of scenery has been great for him. Scott Smith has done well out of the pen and we are happy he is healthy. This trade was made more for roster space than anything and its worked out well for both of us, probably a little better for the Admirals as Johnson has struggled hitting the ball this season.

** In Season Trades **

For Jose Matos
Tsuneo Sato, Chesapeake Blue Crabs
8 Games / 2-4 4.80 (9 Games / 3-3 5.16 w/ NFK)
Tomas Reyes, Chesapeake Blue Crabs
30 Games / .257-0-14 (14 games / .289-0-2 w/ NFK)
Will McNeal, Chesapeake Blue Crabs
18 Games / 1-1 5.14 1 Save (20 Games / 4-1 3.46 1 Save w/ NFK(AAA))
Joseph Kearse, Chesapeake Blue Crabs (#17)
42 Games / .223-2-26 (A) (47 Games / .269-6-27 w/ NFK(A))

This was a great deal for us. We got rid of some deadweight and some big money deals. Sato was fading, Reyes was paid too much McNeal wasn't going to make the big w/ us and we felt that Kearse was overrated. If Kearse develops into a superstar then this trade might turn out on the negative side, but that is a big 'if'. Yes we drafted him twice, but our new scout isn't as fond as him as our old one. Matos, Mateo and Sweetapple may carry us to the title, that is how good our rotation is now.

For Derek Campbell
Ron Alder, Ellicott City Express
27 Games / .274-0-17 (52 Games / .204-4-10 w/ NFK)

Campbell has finally joined the team and he is hitting the ball, making us forget about Ron Alder. He had a career year in 2015 and we felt he was on the downward spiral. Getting a prospect for him fills 2 goals (youth and money). Alder wasn't happy in NFK, so moving felt like the right thing to do. With Perez and Davis stealing bases left and right this season, it makes losing his speed that much easier.

For Javier Uberuaga
Pat Hall, Washington Senators
26 Games / .238-3-11 (7 Games / .200-1-4 w/ NFK)

Getting Javier for Hall makes the Soto trade look better. (Hall came over in the deal.) Hall has a bright future, but didn't have fit into our plans this year. Plus with the likely hood of losing Sweetapple we needed to think about the pitching of our future. We got that with Javier.
