I'll leave the player name out of it to keep the discussion unbiased. The season he was with CHW for the full season, he was very productive, however once being traded around the entire 2013 season, his numbers dropped. To make it more confusing, the time before CHW traded him, he was struggling mightily--worst since the league's inception.
Does any of this matter? Will signing this guy (he's a FA during the offseason) create a more stable environment for him to perform better hopefully?

From my experience trading a player does affect his performance. Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. Just like in real life I have noticed players in OOTP have some sort of 'adjustment' period to their new team. It might be the different home ballpark factors, the different team chemistry, the different coach ratings or just the slightest effect either negative or positive on his morale that can change his performance. I guess you can say it is random to the degree that every player reacts differently to those conditions.
