1871 - World Series
World Series:
1)New Orleans Crescents (13-3) vs 1)Milwaukee Bisons (13-4)
I have to say that I'm pretty pleased that the first World Series featured the top seeds in both the American League and National League. Offensively both teams were fairly evenly matched, but New Orleans held the pitching advantage allowing 49 less runs this year.
New Orleans got off to a quick start in the bottom of the first with 4 runs, and added 1 in the second, 1 in the third, 4 in the fourth, 1 in the fifth, and 2 in the seventh in the 13-3 blowout.
The Crescents pounded out 13 hits, and took advantage of 10 errors by the Bisons. Mark Batch won his third game of the postseason and lowered his ERA to 1.16 allowing just 1 earned run and 3 total runs.
David Abner and Jelani Gideon each went 3-5 at the plate tonight with Gideon stealing a pair of bases and driving in 3 runs to win the World Series MVP.
Congratulations to the New Orleans Crescents on winning the first World Series!
