I am 120 games into my season right now. I have a reliever who has pitched 40.1 innings so far, and is leading the league in ERA among qualified relievers. If your theory holds true, that means if my reliever doesn't pitch in my next two games, he should drop off the list.
I'll keep a close eye on this, but as I am in a playoff push, I won't purposely not use him if I need to, just to test this situation out.
