April 2016 Recap

Players of the Month:
Delaware Conference:

Batter of the Month: Peter Peters, New Castle Colonials

Peters Takes Home DDIV Top Batter Award: When Peter Peters stepped up to the plate in April, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Delaware Conference Batter of the Month award. The young New Castle right fielder posted a .329 batting average with 11 home runs, 29 RBIs and scored 23 runs. Peters also worked pitchers for 20 walks to post a .455 on-base percentage.

Pitcher of the Month: Jarred Perry, Lewes Braves
Delaware Conference Premier Pitcher is Perry: Veteran Jarred Perry put together quite a successful stretch in April for the Lewes Braves, earning himself the Delaware Conference Pitcher of the Month award. Perry racked up a 4-0 record in 5 starts, posting a 1.41 ERA over 38.1 innings and striking out 29.

Rookie of the Month: Lee Berry, New Castle Colonials
DDIV Selects Rookie Star of the Month: Lee Berry's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young New Castle shortstop has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month. In April he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award. During the month he hit .260 with 3 doubles, 1 triple and 5 home runs. Berry also scored 13 times and drove in 16 runs.

MarVa Conference:

Batter of the Month: Jose Rodriquez, Norfolk Cavaliers

Rodríguez Wins MVDIV's Best Bat Trophy: In April, Norfolk Cavaliers right fielder José Rodríguez claimed the MarVa Conference Batter of the Month award. The 29-year-old swung with confidence, hitting .490 with 5 home runs, 16 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

Pitcher of the Month: Jose Villa, Annapolis Admirals
MarVa Conference Picks Best Starter in April: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, José Villa still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 29-year-old starter for Annapolis was named MarVa Conference Pitcher of the Month earlier today. He collected 4 wins and no losses with 12 strikeouts in his 4 starts, putting up a fine 2.22 ERA in 28.1 innings of work.

(yes the same Jose Villa I dumped in the pre-season.)

Rookie of the Month: Marcos Gomez, Baltimore Barons
Gómez Voted April's #1 Newcomer: Marcos Gómez will be on his way to great things, if he keeps up April's production. The 27-year-old first-year player for Baltimore put up excellent numbers last month to claim the MarVa Conference Rookie of the Month Award. Last month the center fielder posted up a solid .235 average, 2 home runs, 6 RBIs, 20 hits, 6 walks, .286 OBP and scored 10 runs.

Standings as for May 2nd 2016

In the Southern Division the Lewes Braves continue to one of the top teams and the Georgetown Sixteens shook off a miserable season last year and are right there. The Dover Generals have always competed, so it will be interesting to see where they go... The New Castle Colonials are off to a great start, but so are the Wilmington Iron Pigs. This looks to be a 2 team dogfight all season long. Have the young Colonials finally hit their stride?... Over in the MarVa Conference the Annapolis Admirals seem to be the class of the Eastern Division. But the Chesapeake Blue Crabs aren't going away any time soon. If I was a betting man, my money would be on the Admirals winning it all... And in the Western Division the Cavaliers are off to a solid start, but the suprising Richmond Cardinals are right there. The Washington Senators are off to one of their typical slow starts, but can't be counted out just yet.

Norfolk Cavaliers Recap

The Cavaliers are off to a solid start, we have a few questions marks, but all in all I think we are looking like a solid all around team. The Defenisve is one of the tops in the league, our pitching is one of the best in the league. Just need to get the pen to be a little more consistent. Ivan Pineda is on our short list, we have too much pitching down in AAA to keep a 7+ ERA on the roster. We will see... We are going to tweak the lineup a little bit moving Alder out of the lead off slot, putting Kent Davis there and move Jose Rodriquez to the #3 hole. Hitting between Perez and Freitas should give a few more good pitches... Mauro Candelaria is too good of a hitter to be posting a sub-200 average... Time to start planning for the future, yet this season, with budget issues to effect our future its time to develop a plan. Here is a list of players that may be shopped: Tomas Reyes, Tsueno Sato, Mauro Candelaria, Ron Alder and Don Sweetapple. More to come on this front.

Work and grad school have been kicking my tail, sorry for the long delay.
