Thanks. I found this point in an older thread, and it was really the "near future" answer I was looking for.
My immediate concern was about how my customized teams (like moving the Blue Jays to Gotham City) kept getting overridden in the off-season. I now know that unchecking "allow expansion" will fix that.
Maybe later on I'll try something more ambitious, but for the moment a slightly-tweaked MLB will do.
