GOLDEN ARMS GO TO COLD CREEK'S GILLESPIE, NORTH HILLS' OWENS
Cold Creek's J. J. Gillespie and North Hills' Jeff Owens were selected the top twirlers in the IPA and were awarded Golden Arms this season... At age 35, Gillespie has now won the Ruthlandian honor for a record fifth time... it was 34-year-old Owens' first time to win the coveted award.
Ruthlandian Union:
1. J. J. Gillespie... Cold Creek... paced the Catamounts to the fourth division crown in five years... they topped the IPA with 101 victories... Gillespie was 23-11 with 269 strikeouts and led the RU with a 2.26 ERA... he was third in the IPA in Ks, first the RU... Gillespie reached the 200-win milestone this season and now is 206-105 in 12 years with the Catamounts... he is number one in the IPA with a 2.28 lifetime ERA.
2. Christopher Dunsberry... Sugar Valley... went 23-8 with a standout 2.67 ERA in spite of having to pitch in a notorious hitters' ball park... his Rattlers finished third in the divison race.
3. Jimmy Herman... Beechwood... 24-13 with a 2.92 ERA and 252 Ks for a second place team... 25 complete games.
Tycobbian Union:
1. Jeff Owens... North Hills won division title for the seventh year in a row... Owens chalked up 28 victories and was the IPA leader... he only lost 7 games and put up a 2.48 ERA.
2. Jayson Hallstrom... led Summerland to its first pennant in eight years with a 24-7 mark and the best ERA in the IPA with a superb 2.06 ERA... Hallstrom had 8 shutouts... the most in the IPA this year and came within one of tying the all-time IPA record.
3. Lanny Gray... Arlon's fine young fireballer... the Champions tied for second in the TU West... Gray was 21-7 with a 2.31 ERA and 227 Ks... he notched 22 complete games.
