Week 4

Current Week: 2-4 (13-9 - GB, 1st (+1))
Next Week: 2 vs Milford Clippers, 4 vs Baltimore Barons
Power Ranking: 4 (-2)
Fan Interest: 63 (+1)
Owners Mood: Delighted

Game 17
New Castle 6, Norfolk 7
Carlos Mateo (ND) went 5.1 innings giving up 6 hits, 3 HR's, and 6 runs, while striking out 8 before handing the game over to the pen. The bullpen pitched shutout ball over the final 3.2 innings, and Ron Harris (2-0) was the benefactor over a walk-off victory. The offense slugged out 10 hits, including a 3-4 day by Pat Shelton, he also added 3 RBI's. Kent Davis added 2 hits and 2 runs. Shelton singled in 2 in the 9th for the victory.

Game 18
New Castle 5, Norfolk 3
Tsuneo Sato (1-1) gave up 9 hits, 2 HR's, and 5 runs over 7 innings. The offense was held to 7 hits, including a 3-4 day by Jesus Rivera and and 2-4 day by Ron Alder. Alder had a solo-HR (3) for the Cav's only extra-base hit.

Game 19
Norfolk 1, Richmond 7
Karl Armstrong (2-2) took the loss, giving up 6 runs on 8 hits and 4 walks, as the offense was held to just 1 run. Ivan Pineda gave up 1 run in 1 inning of work, as his struggles continued. Roberto Perez had 3 of the teams 8 hits, and Pablo Freitas and Tomas Reyes had 2 each. Ron Alder had the games only extra-base hit, a double, and Perez added 2 stolen bases (10).

Game 20
Norfolk 7, Richmond 8
Sun Ho (2-1) got roughed up over 5.1 innings, giving up 7 runs on 5 hits and 6 walks. The offense put together a late rally (2 in the 9th), but fell short. Roberto Perez and Pablo Freitas lead the offense with 3 hits a piece and Jose Rodriquez added 2, in his first game back from injury. Freitas ahd a triple and a double, and Rodriquez hit a 2-run HR (5).

Game 21
Norfolk 0, Richmond 4
Don Sweetapple (2-2) threw the ball well, but the offense gave him no support. Over 7.2 innings Sweetapple gave up 3 runs on 9 hits, while striking out 7. The offense only managed 3 hits, all singles, 2 by Tomas Reyes who left the game in the 8th with an injury.

Injury News: Tomas Reyes suffered an elbow sprain when he collided with a runner during defensive play. Reyes will be out 3-4 weeks... Yasutokie Ine has been recalled and will platoon with Jesus Rivera until Reyes returns. Ine is hitting .449 at AAA.

Game 22
Norfolk 4, Richmond 3
Carlos Mateo (3-0) threw 7 strong innings, giving up 6 hits and 2 runs. He did give up HR, might need to keep an eye on his HR's allowed. Dalton Whitaker threw a perfect 9th for the save (5). The offense wasn't great (7 hits all singles), but did enough to get the win Roberto Perez lead the way with a 2-4 day. Ron Alder scored 2 runs.

Players of the Week:
Delaware: Anthony Cunningham (Dover Generals) 11-24, 2 HR's, 5 RBI's
MarVa: Chris Gross (Richmond Cardinals) 8-23, 3 HR's, 10 RBI's

Power Rankings:
1) Annapolis Admirals (133.9)
2) New Castle Colonials (128.7)
3) Wilmington Iron Pigs (121.5)
4) Norfolk Cavaliers (130.8)
5) Chesapeake Blue Crabs (106.4)

Notable Feats:
Cliff Jones (Washington Senators) Hit Streak @ 20 Games / Ended @ 21 games.
Fred Bishop (Wilmington Iron Pigs) Hit Streak @ 20 Games / Active.

Notable Injuries:
Andres Salinas (Dover Generals) Sprained Ankle, out 4 weeks

GM Thoughts/Notes: Richmond seems vastly improved from last year. They might be our new divisional rival, but I am still not going to be counting out Washington. Might just be a 3-team race this season... Leadoff man Ron Alder is hitting .198 on the season, he did the same thing last year, just doesn't seem to like to hit out of the leadoff spot. Expect some lineup changes forth May.... Kent Davis will be moving in the leadoff slot, need to figure out who will hit #3. Jose Rodriquez seems to be flourishing in the 5 hole. Maybe Escamilla? Rivera? Probably going to end up with Rivera, maybe do some testing with him and Escamilla... Starting pitching was off this past week. I am concerned with Karl Armstrong and Sun Ho's control... Pineda seems to be the weak link in the pen right now. Bring up Cooper? Give him some more time?... One month down. I am happy with this team so far, obviously there are some things that need to be fixed. Its a long season, we will see where it goes... Rumors are Tomas Reyes might be on the trading block.
