Al Monchak - 1940 Phillies shortstop

ADDENDUM To 1939-1940 Phila. Phillies - pages 1001 & 1002. Infielders - Al Monchak.

A serious omission to my 1939-1940 Phillies project that is laid out on Pages 1001 & 1002
is this gentleman, shortstop,Al Monchak. He is significant if only for the fact that he is the
lone remaining living player from those those two Phillies teams and he is the oldest living
Phillie at this time.. He came up from the minors in June 1940 and that Phils team turned
out to be his only stop in the majors. He may have reached the majors again if not for
World War Two military service. Monchak coached in the majors for a number of teams for
many years. Born March 5, 1917, at age 96 years and 8 months plus, Wikipedia calls him
the 6th oldest currently living major leaguer.
