The Cats are not gonna hire another catcher - they're clearly committed to Avila as the everyday guy, despite his offensive and defensive issues, and the DH slot is already taken.
Plus, by not re-signing Pena, they've signaled a commitment to cutting personnel expenses as well. Pena out-hit and out-performed Avila defensively, yet he's gone, and he barely made anything.
Holaday, an unproven rookie, will be Avila's backup at the league minimum. Take that as you will.
