Rocky created too much pressure for his elusive rival, busting open his right eye with an uppercut in round three and hammering him until the cut forced the stoppage in round seven and Rocky gets a rematch with Gamboa from the Feather tourney.
Tod Morgan 14-6-1 (2) vs Diego Corrales 35-5-1 (29)
Tod used the same spoiling tactics that defeated Juan Manuel Marquez to take the first two rounds, in the third Chico connected with a wicked hook and he took Morgan to task over the rest of the round. With Corrales in control, Morgan nutted up and went toe to toe with Diego in rounds five through seven and every round was packed with action. With everything up for grabs Tod was boxing well in the final round when Corrales dropped him with an uppercut with eighteen seconds left in the fight and that allowed Chico to take the UD. 116-113 & 115-113 x2
Tyrone Everett 20-1 (11) vs Carlos Ramon Rios 12-8-1 (4)
Rios shocked everyone in attendance when he dropped Tyrone a minute into the fight and he battered Everett over the remainder of the round so severely that the ref almost stepped in (3-31). Everett dusted himself off and used his jabs and combination punching to massacre Rios' face until the doctor recommended the stoppage in round ten.
Alfredo Escalera 20-1 (16) vs Pierre Cote 33-7-1 (18)
Cote showed off his explosive speed, but Escalera landed the more powerful blows and that enabled him to escape with a tight UD. 115-112 & 114-113 x2
Johnny Sato 10-10-1 (3) vs Calvin Grove 28-10-4 (14)
Two fighters not expected to be here put forth great efforts, Sato floored Grove with a right hand in the second and Calvin returned the favor with a hook in round four and then they fought on even terms until Grove was awarded the tight MD. 114-113 x2 & 114-114
(WBC) Acelino Freitas 35-6 (19) vs Johnny Dundee 34-10 (11)
Freitas scored the more powerful punches when he was able to get around Johnny's educated jab, PoPo landed a murderous right hand that floored Dundee in round eleven for an eight count and he impressed with his UD victory. 117-110, 117-111 & 116-111
Roger Bernard 32-6-3 (8) vs Phillip N'Dou 19-20-3 (9)
Bernard ballooned both his game foes eyes and floored him in round ten en route to an easy UD. 117-110 x2 & 117-112
Marco Antonio Barrera 74-14-2 (54) vs (IBO) Roberto Garcia 14-7 (8)
Rematch: Barrera TKO8
Marco was in a vengeful mood and he hammered Garcia with hooks to the body and head while dominating the first three plus rounds until the ref stepped in, prematurely, after a 3 punch combo in round four.
