Mike McGeary
Mike McGeary is a 23 year old CF currently playing in AA Laurinberg. He has above average speed and is an above average fielder in both CF and LF, but a weak arm keeps him from being a candidate to play RF. McGeary currently is an average hitter with average discipline and ability to avoid strikeouts, but all of these skills have room for growth and stand to be above average tools once he finishes developing. His 6’2”, 200 lbs frame is nearly fully developed though, so he will likely never be more than a slap hitter with occasional gap power. Scouts don’t project him to ever get out of the single digits in HRs in a season. McGeary uses his above average speed well, and is a fantastic baserunner and base-stealer.
McGeary was a Madison’s 3rd round pick (66th overall) in the 2022 draft out of the University of Washington. He spent his first year beating up on less polished competition in R ball, and earned a fielding award for his play in CF. After spending all year in SA in 2023, McGeary moved up the ladder much quicker in 2024. He started the year in SA but finished in AA despite mediocre numbers in A. His raw skills were apparent to scouts though, and he entered the 2025 season as the #83 prospect in the game. He started this year repeating AA and appears to have developed a level of comfort that escaped him last year. He is batting .357 through the team’s first 32 games and on Monday was named the AA hitter of the week.
McGeary faces competition in his quest to make it to the ABL. In AAA, Juan Jose Guzman is a more polished CF prospect, though with perhaps a lower ceiling, and the Madison OF is stocked with talented young players. Expect him to spend the majority of the year in AA barring a series of injuries or trades. If he keeps producing, he will force Madison’s hand one way or another to get to the big leagues.
