Jr Lightweight- Second Round
Rolando Navarrete 18-2 (10) vs Antonio Amaya 13-4-3 (2)
Navarrete had total control of this one until he dropped Amaya early in the third with a hook and then he battered him until a brutal cross left Antonio flat on his back for the count later in round three.
Harry Blitman 29-12-1 (6) vs Joan Guzman 42-17-3 (27)
Guzman built a lead behind his blindingly fast hands and a hook opened a cut over Harry's right eye in round four, early in the sixth a wicked hook to the body put Blitman down for an eight count, Joan promptly floored him again with a three punch combo and though he barely beat the count, the ref stopped the bout.
Lothar Abend 15-4-1 (3) vs Jorge Paez 33-12-1 (12)
Paez couldn't find the form that led him to shock the world by reaching the Featherweight Quarter finals, Abend was steady as it goes working behind his jab and he even floored the Mexican in round eight with a hook on the way to a shockingly SD. 98-91, 94-95 & 96-93
Eddie Shea 29-11-4 (9) vs Robbie Peden 12-6-2 (2)
Shea was too technical for Robbie, using strong footwork and combinations to keep Peden unhinged and he took the wide UD. 99-91, 98-93 & 97-93
Tony Lopez 32-8 (21) vs Brian Mitchell 16-4 (2)
Brian used his jab and deft footwork to control the first three rounds. Lopez tired of this and upped the pressure in round four, driving Mitchell to the ropes with a nasty right hand and getting the best of the action despite some solid counters from the Sought African. Tony hurt him twice in round five with left hooks during another strong round for the Tiger.
Midway through round six Lopez floored Mitchell with a right hand and he threw everything he had at him over the remainder of the round but was unable to close the show. Brian took advantage of his arm weary foe in the seventh with two and three punch combos but that was all he had left and Lopez cruised down the stretch to earn a UD. 97-92 & 96-93 x2
Bazooka Limon 15-4-1 (9) vs Takashi Uchiyama 10-9-1 (6)
This bout produced violent inside exchanges but Limon was almost always dictating the action and a knockdown in round seven solidified the Mexicans dominance and Rafael went on to take the UD. 98-92, 98-93 & 97-93
(WBA) Antonio Cermeno 53-10-3 (28) vs Vicente Derado 10-8-2 (1)
Cermeno suffered a bad cut over his right eye in round two, but he barely noticed it as he hammered Derado along the ropes for much of the fight; opening a cut under Vicente's right eye and nearly closing his left en route the impressive UD. 120-109, 119-110 & 116-113
Adrien Broner 14-6 (6) vs Celestino Caballero 46-17-1 (28)
Caballero out-worked Adrien for long stretches but when Adrien fired there were dire consequences. Celestino opened a bad cut on the right eye brow in round three but Broner rebounded with knockdowns in rounds five and seven from vicious right hands. Caballero rebounded with a big eighth and he reopened the gash early in round nine and that prompted the referees stoppage.
