What else would you have the Houston club be named?
Stupid sports names to me:
Redskins
LA Lakers
STL Cardinals - state bird of MO is a Eastern Bluebird, State bird of IL is the Cardinal.
LA Dodgers
Utah Jazz
Rays should be Sting Rays
KC Royals - dont hate the name just there are better names for KC
There's two different levels of "silly" names, in my opinion - those that don't make sense for the city/state (Lakers, Jazz, Dodgers), and those that are simply silly concepts (Red/White Sox, Phillies, and Dodgers, actually). The former usually arises from relocation, and though it would have made sense to re-name the team upon relocating, I don't mind them all that much. The latter are usually old, traditional names that the teams can't bring themselves to part with. I also don't mind those. Silly names don't bother me, but I can at least admit that they're silly.

EDIT: The Tampa Bay Sting Rays doesn't sound right to me. I like the name "Rays," but I think they need to re-incorporate the stingray back into their design - along with the current sunburst. They could keep both.

EDIT2: The Redskins really need to go. In the same vein, the Blackhawks should keep their name but change their logo.
