These two master boxers felt each other out in the opening round, predominantly using their jabs and Willie had the edge until the the closing moments when a straight right opened a gash on Pep's forehead. They fought evenly over the next three rounds but in round five Abe took command with several clean lead right hands to score the first dominant round of the bout.
Both men struggled to penetrate the prodigious defenses of their rivals but Willie scored with sharp combinations during a strong seventh round. Abe bounced back in round eight with lead right hands that reopened Willie's cut. The 'Will O Wisp' dazzled in round nine with a constant stream of combos that caused distension on both of Attell's eyes. Round ten was more of the same and Pep's jabs and hooks had the slight swelling on Abe's right eye rapidly worsening.
Pep continued to put his punches together and build a lead in rounds eleven and twelve. Feeling desperate, Attell pressed the action in round thirteen and kept it tight with hard right hands. In round fourteen, Abe continued to be more aggressive and he was doing well when he ducked into an uppercut and Willie launched a 4 punch combo that landed flush and put Attell down for the count and gave Pep an emphatic victory.

Classic matchup! Pep was fortunate to go most of the fight cut like that and end "The Little Hebew's" unbeaten run. Rematch?
