(WBA) Yuriorkis Gamboa 38-8 (25) vs (IBO & WBC) Willie Pep 40-5-1 (16)
Pep flashed his dazzling defense and footwork, along with a steady jab, to dominate the first two rounds. Early in round three Gamboa staggered Willie with a right hand and jumped in with a lunging hook that put Pep down for an eight count, Yuri connected with several punishing blows over the remainder of the round but he wasn't able to finish the job.
Pep got right back to business and his lead right hands had Gamboa's left eye badly swelling by the end of round five, in the tenth with his eye nearly closed Gamboa suffered a brutal cut over his other eye after a counter hook from Pep and the fight was promptly stopped due to the facial damage ending a tremendous run from the Cuban.
(WBO) Eder Jofre 52-1 (32) vs (IBF) Abe Attell 25-0-1 (13)
After a tactical opening round, Abe got his jab working in the second and late in round three a beautiful three punch combo put Jofre down for a seven count. After that things settled down, but, with the exception of rounds nine and ten when the Brazilian connected with hard left hooks and right hands, Attell maintained control and he ended Eder's hopes of being the first multi-division tourney winner with a comprehensive UD. 148-136, 146-137 & 146-138
