My opinion is that they was willing to postpone the release but:

they have already postponed it several times;
they had to release first version (and therefore next ones) close to NHL season start, and if they postponed the release the whole nice schedule would be set off;
they needed to get some money to continue work with the FHM;
maybe their bosses (read Markus and co.) didn't allow them to postpone. It's financial things, baby, you know.

Whatever reason is, FHM was released at September 2013. And this event can't be erased from history. (unless you have working DeLorean, of course

)
