Featherweight Sixth Round
(IBO) Willie Pep 38-5-1 (16) vs (WBC) Fighting Harada 71-4 (36)
Once again Pep was faced with a determined foe, but his jab, speed and movement were too much for Harada to overcome. The early rounds were highly competitive but by the midway point the Japanese warriors eyes were swelling and Willie dominated the final third to take another wide UD. 147-137 x2 & 147-139
Eusebio Pedroza 23-1-1 (15) vs Jorge Paez 32-11-2 (12)
Euesebio struggled a bit with his awkward rival in the opening rounds but in the fourth and fifth he landed hard hooks to the body and uppercuts to the head. In round seven Jorge opened a nasty cut over Pedroza's left eye. They fought closely until round ten when Eusebio rocked him with a right hand and the Panamanian dominated the final three rounds on his way to an upset SD loss! 115-114 x2 & 114-115, questionably decision aside this is possibly the most unlikely quarter finalist in any of my tourneys.
Davey Moore 21-2-2 (14) vs Dick Finnegan 40-3-2 (9)
Finnegan suffered a cut over his left eye early in the opening round but it didn't deter him and they fought evenly through six rounds including the vicious third where they traded big right hands several times. In the seventh and eighth Davey landed brutal left hands that staggered Dick and puffed up his right eye, but Finnegan righted his ship and closed strong to secure a just draw. 116-114, 114-115 & 115-115
Kid Chocolate 42-1-1 (19) vs Jem Driscoll 42-1-1 (16)
This was a tough fight to handicap but Jim put on another stunning performance, rocking Chocolate three times during a dominant opening round and completely controlling the Kid on the way to an incredibly impressive UD. 119-111 & 118-111 x2
