I have alot of fun using talents only. I don't get sick of it at all.
What I do for fictional leagues is I'll start the league off in traditional...and play the entire first season that way...and then just after the spring training...I switch it. I find I get a good starting handle for my team this way. Once I switch I find it much less predictable and more of a challenge. I rely heavily on the stats the players have put up to determine R/L situaltional moves.
As said above, as long as you don't lock it you can always go back and change it to traditional or reduced. I use Cato History program which shows the ratings as they were at the end of the season for the players. So I still get to see the players ratings just not all the time. It works for me.
