Thursday, August 10 - owner to general manager:

Boss: Brian, I can't take it anymore. If we don't win tomorrow, I want Joe out of here. On a rail!

Brian: Yes, Boss. I hear Donnie might be available.

Boss: Call him and tell him to start packing his bags. Joe can't manage this team out of a paper bag!

Friday, August 11:

Brian: OK, Boss, Donnie can take the next plane out of LAX.

Boss: Crap, we can't fire Joe after tonight's game! A walk-off grand slam after Sault Ste. Marie takes the lead in the top of the ninth! Wow, did you hear the crowd? The guys carried Joe off the field! No, wait until the next time we lose then lower the boom. Heh, that'll probably be tomorrow!

Monday, August 14:

Brian: Hey, Boss! We swept Fremont!

Boss: No thanks to the dufus we got running the team. Say, was he lost in thought or did I see him nodding off in the dugout? I bet the bullpen guys called just to ring the phone and wake him up before he fell over.

Brian: Speaking of phones, Donnie called. He wants to know what flight to take.

Boss: Not yet. Tell him we want to time his arrival just right. If he comes too early, everybody is gonna know what we're planning.

Brian: Alright, I'll tell him but he ain't gonna like it.

Monday, August 21:

Boss: Man, I knew we could take Wonewoc but sweeping Paterson! We kicked some number one butt! I'm starting to believe!!

Brian: Donnie was on the phone just now. He says to tell you to make up your mind, 'cause he's not going to wait around forever.

Boss: Yeah, yeah. Tell him we're still waiting for the right time, yada yada. Put him off.

Brian: I think he's already put off, Boss.

Sunday, August 27:

Brian: Hot damn, 16 in a row! Lenkerville and Cedar Falls are noooo match for us. SteamROLLER, baby!

Boss: You said it! I am really glad I didn't take your suggestion to fire Joe.

Brian: What? Me? You're the one who . . . oh. Yeah. Right, Boss. Bad idea of mine.

Boss: Get Joe up here. Let's talk contract extension.

Brian: Sure, Boss. Oh, by the way, Donnie took the job in Kansas City.

Boss: Who? Oh yeah. Good for him. I never liked him anyway.
