While everybody is posting their Orlando Pena photos, here are some unusual ones.
The first photo is from Spring Training 1969 (with Mel Harder, Jim Rooker, Larry Sherry, and Dave Wickersham).
The third photo is from Spring Training 1970 I believe.
The third and fourth photos were on eBay a few years back supposedly taken on May 17, 1970 in Comiskey Park. It surprised me since Pena was never on the active Kansas City Royals roster at any point in his career (and had actually been released by the Royals on April 6, 1970). I asked him about it and he said that he spent a few weeks (possibly a couple months) with KC as a pitching coach (plus an insurance policy in case any pitchers got hurt) with the intention of making coaching a full time thing since he figured his career was over (he hadn't pitched in the MLB since 1967). He's never been listed as an official KC coach in any of the yearbooks/media guides that I've ever been able to find. I'm not sure exactly how it came about (don't know if he was let go as a coach by the Royals or if the opportunity to resume his career came while he was still traveling with the Royals) but he signed with the Pirates as a free agent on June 9, 1970.
