The playoff eligible roster is set (as you probably already know) on August 31. All men on the 25 man roster and those on the DL as of this date are eligible for the postseason. Additionally replacements for those players who go on the DL during September are allowed on the roster that is it.

On the day before each playoff series the rosters for that series are due. Once these are submitted there can be no changes and all players must come from the postseason eligibility list. The rosters may only be changed between series.

So how does OOTP handle this:

Well postseason rosters are NOT set as of August 31st (as you've no doubt noticed). However at the end of the season the rosters are set, and the only players that will be eligible for the postseason in OOTP are the players on the 25 man roster and those on the DL, so if you want to carry a taxi squad of players you better place them on the DL and make sure they are eligbile to come off the DL before the start of the next series.

During the playoffs the game follows the MLB rule of not allowing promotions or changes to the 25 man roster during the playoff series. On the one "magical" day between the series you can activate players from the DL to replace a player on your 25 man roster, if that player is injured you can even place him on the DL, if he's not and you send them to AAA, we'll he's lost for the rest of the postseason, as in OOTP's eyes you've kicked him off the postseason eligibility list.

I am not aware of weather or not the computer can cheat and promote players during the postseason in the midst of a series, I wouldn't be worried about someone going from AAA to A ball during the postseason but I would be irritated to see either the AI promoting players from AAA to the majors during the postseason or to see the AI activating players from the DL in the middle of a post season series.

My current solo league is approaching the playoffs, I will check this out and if appropriate add it to the known issues list so that hopefully Markus can kill this one for the next patch.
