The trade that sent ace Wilfred Buckley to the Radscorpions seemed to be a good one for the Lucky 38s, especially in long-term prospects. In the first year of the deal:
Goodsprings
SP Jim Jones, 8-5, 3.31 ERA, 141.1 IP, 123 K, 1.10 WHIP
1B Jesus Martinez, .251, 10 2B, 13 HR, 62 RBI, 32 R
North Vegas
SP Wilfred Buckley, 10-7, 2.75 ERA, 140.2 IP, 134 K, 0.96 WHIP
Buckley is one of the best pitchers in the league, but he's 13 years older than Jones. Jones didn't have quite as good a season as Buckley, but he had a similarly good season. Add Martinez's performance to Jones' and Goodsprings obtained to really good young players for a superstar. Maybe Goodsprings could use Buckley for the playoffs this season, but in the end they will be happy to have Jones and Martinez over their careers.
