shouldn't matter. he left, he gave up his team, and someone else took it over. If the new guy has no problem taking over another team besides the Blue Jays, then there's no problem, but that should be between the commish and the new Blue Jays owner. If the old guy refuses to re-join unless he gets his old team, then, even if he is a popular guy, you'd probably be better off without him.
