The majority of OOTP players play the game differently.
For me, I play exclusively online leagues (okay, just the PEBA, actually) where the competition is against other humans. We sim 7 days at a time, twice a week, which is a moderately slow pace. You have time to review player performance in detail. The PEBA is a writing league, meaning that article writing is a large component of the world we create. Write a decent length article about a player and you connect with them at a deeper level even then just analyzing their play can give you. This really adds connection to players you wouldn't get any other way. The pace is fast enough that you feel like you can have an impact on your team, but slow enough that when you break through with a contender after a rebuild you feel like you've really worked to get there. PEBA is a top rate online league and we'll be converting to OOTP14 in short order, so if anyone is interested, check us out at the link in my sig.
I've previously been in leagues that simmed 15 days at a time, 4 or 5 days a week, which meant that seasons went by really quickly. In those leagues, you tend to focus more on building the team at a macro level, and you have to be quick on the trigger with trades, but you also don't spend a ton of time feeling stuck in your current situation. I'm liking the slower pace now that I'm in that world.
To me, online play is the only way I've been able to stay engaged. The connection with others and the challenge of trying to convince a human to part with their talent is very different from just trying to outsmart the AI.
