Have they? I would think that unwise as the integrity of the bat would be compromised. For the same reason you wouldn't just stuff paper tissue into the hollow.
What is stuffed into the bat has nothing to do with how far the ball goes. The idea is to replace some of the wood with a lighter substance to gain bat speed. But you still have to make sure the bat is not going to be weakened. Cork seems to achieve both.
