It's not for everyone, especially if you update it manually like I do, but I keep a spreadsheet with every player in my organization and their ratings. Injury promotions/demotions aside, I do two big ratings-based reassignment sessions a year: once right before spring training, and another right before the short-season leagues start.
These are also the times I cull players I deem too old for their level.
