Spring Training
I'm sure it depends on the era and the settings associated with it, but for the modern era, how many innings and at bats would be recommended in spring training to knock the "rust" off?
SPs are typically going 4 innings per start, and I set up a 6-man rotation to allow for a battle for that 5th slot. And I expanded my roster and am allowing some younger players to get some ABs/IP and also save my starters from exposing them to too many injuries. I have a few battles for that last spot on the bench or last arm in the pen.
But how much is enough? How much is too much (if there's such a thing).
I am assuming that if I got a starting player all of his ABs/IP early in the spring and sat him out for a lengthy period, he'd be rusty again for the start of the regular season. Am I correct in this assumption?
