Lopat No-Hits Reds
Thursday, August 28th, 1952

Excitement reigned at the ballyard today as Boston hurler Ed Lopat tossed a baseball rarity -- a no-hitter.

After defeating the Cincinnati Reds at Crosley Field 4-0 he was swamped by reporters in the clubhouse for postgame comments. "I'm just glad to be here. I want to help the club any way I can. Today I just went right at the Cincinnati as hard as I could, as long as I could."

Lopat chalked up 3 strikeouts and allowed 1 walk in his superb performance.

The Boston manager had his own analysis of the ballgame: "I don't think we could have hit him with a howitzer today."

This year Lopat has compiled a 8-10 record with a 3.34 ERA in 22 starts.
