I do historical sims mostly, albeit with a few fictional minor league teams, or "what-if" scenarios with expansion teams that never happened (like my current one with the 1986-? Indianapolis Arrows). I'm still using OOTP11, since I found a used copy cheap about a year ago. When I get to 2010 or so, I'll probably just start up another scenario, like what if the St. Louis Browns never moved to Baltimore.
That's kind of the beauty of OOTP, really. You CAN update, but you don't HAVE to. I probably will eventually, but I'm in no hurry to at the moment.
