Well, you could be right, although injury ratings are typically based on injury history in the game, and that is largely random. But when players are created, the question is: how are their injury ratings determined?
I know that I've read some things about rookies being imported as fragile, and that may be due to their usage or perhaps to the lack of injury information. Maybe it's random, but it would nice if it was based on historical data. However, using stats can be misleading because some players with low usage weren't necessarily injured. They just weren't starters. But, personally, I think that players with 500+ at bats should be durable if you're using recalc stats.
So, to offer a correction, I should say that Ripken's injury rating will likely improve once he has played through a season without suffering multiple injuries. That should help him improve from fragile, even if the game is not using any real life stats as a basis for injury ratings. But, if the game randomly starts giving him injuries and some of them are major, then he could end up as fragile again.
