His shoulder is what effectively ended his career. He missed a lot of time with shoulder injuries including 3 shoulder surgeries. He also missed time with 2 elbow injuries but one of those was due to comebacker to the mound and not pitching related. The other one was never considered serious. Prior never pitched a full season again after 2003 and the playoff run.
