Bantamweights Third Round
Memphis Pal Moore 20-0-1 (3) vs Pete Herman 19-3 (4)
Herman's jab was working overtime from the outset of the contest, it drew swelling around Moore's right eye by the end of round four and while Memphis had some successful moments, Herman was always in control and he took the UD. 118-110 x2 & 117-111
Sixto Escobar 21-0 (3) vs Joe Lynch 16-5-2 (6)
Escobar put all of his skills on display, pounding Lynch with nasty combos that closed hie right eye and Sixto's tremendous defense kept the Americans offense completely at bay before a hook finally dropped Joe in round eleven and a follow up barrage forced the ref to intervene.
Rafael Marquez 54-5-2 (40) vs Chuco Castillo 14-7-1 (3)
Castillo dominated the first two rounds with free flowing combos and he buckled Rafa's legs late in the second with a sharp right hand. Chuco came out strong in the third and he rocked marquez with a short hook before Rafael stormed back with precision right hands and uppercuts that led to them slugging non-stop over the final forty seconds of an amazing round (19-17). They battled evenly in tight over the next six minutes but Marquez got the best of some heated exchanges in the sixth round and he staggered Chuco late with a huge right hand.
Rafa's jab started some swelling on Castillo's right eye in round seven and Marquez carried that round and much of round eight until a Castillo connected with a wild overhand right that put his rival on the deck on for a count of four late in a stanza that marquez had completely in control. They continued in tightly contested rounds until Marquez took over in the final two with punishing combinations that had Castillo in retreat. However, the judges gave the UD to Chuco 116-112, 116-114 & 115-113
Fernando Gagnon 20-1 (9) vs Harry Harris 18-3-1 (6)
Gagnon's aggression served him well in the first two rounds as he landed hard hooks to the body and head, Harris stemmed the momentum in the third when he drilled the Canadian with a series of counter hooks that immediately ballooned Fernando's right eye. Gagnon never stopped pressing and he had his moments, but his badly damaged eye left a target for Harris' jabs and hooks that led him to the UD victory. 116-112 x2 & 115-114
