Berry doesn't have the versatility of the donkelly, who can play every single position on the field (including pitcher, which he has done). That's what makes him so valuable.
Berry's one-dimensional - speed - doesn't even have that good of a glove, and he's not much of a hitter.
I agree the Dirks/Garcia combo would be nice, but there's considerations there.
Dirks is a lefty, hence, he's not gonna start often against LHP and will get yanked with a lefty on the mound. He platoons with Tuiasosopo (RHB) for obvious reasons. Plus, in Skipper's mind, neither of those two are every-day players like Hunter and AJ.
Garcia is just getting started, so he's not going to play every day at this point in his career. You don't start a colt with every race in a field of thoroughbreds. You give him time to grow into the role. If he was a starter and got mired in an Avila-like funk, it could damage his confidence or worse. They pick their spots to start him, as they should. There will be time later to play him every-day, maybe next year or the one after that.
