Tigers 6, Twins 1. [Boxscore]

Summary: Tigers bash Twinkies, thanks to Scherzer and Garcia's pinch-hit triple as they take 3 out of 4.

Pitching: Scherzer continued his winning ways, tossing a solid 6 innings (3 hits and 3 walks), punching out 6 as he surrendered just 1 run. He improves to 7-0, 3.42. He's certainly matured into an elite pitcher since he came over to the Cats.

Putkonen (0.2 innings, 1 walk) and Smyly (2.1 innings, 1 walk and 3 K's) slammed the door shut on the Twins to secure the victory. What's gotten into the bullpen? They've been like a brick wall, not that I'm complaining, mind you. It's nice to see them performing like this, but it's out of character!

Hope it lasts for some time.

Offense: Hunter blasted a solo-shot (2) into the RF seats [video] to open up the scoring in the first - his 299th, by the way.

Then, in the 4th, Fielder poked his 13th double into the left-center gap [video] (nearly a HR - about 4 feet up, would have cleared the fences) to score Miggy.

(Picked up an interesting stat from Rick Thompson's Twitter feed: "Fielder is now 6x6 with eight RBI following the last six walks issued to Miguel Cabrera." Amazing!)

The 6th was the big inning for the Cats: After Avila singled in Miggy, the bases became loaded with a walk to Infante. Up came Avisail Garcia, pinch-hitting for the donkelly. Result?

A blistering bases-clearing triple (nearly a HR, just like Prince's double) for Garcia's first-ever triple! Man, that boy can FLY for such a big guy.

Other than that, the team didn't get much production, with just 6 hits and 5 walks, but they made the most of it, which is the ideal situation. Way to go, Boys!

Next game: Monday, Pittsburgh (30-19, 12-10 away - doesn't count today's game still in progress) @ Tigers (28-20, 16-8 home), 1:08 Eastern. TV: FS-D, MLBN. Radio: 97.1 The Ticket.

Projected starters: Former Twin Liriano (aka Tigers headache) (3-0, 1.00) vs Verlander (5-4, 3.66).

Tigers will be wearing special camouflage caps and a camouflage "D" on their home uniforms in honor of our troops, past and present.
