1883 News and Notes

November

8- Haymakers have signed FA Star CF Ramon 'Hornet' Javier to a 3yr deal.

28- The Westerns win the sweepstakes for FA C Jerry Dorgan, signing the 26yo to a 7 year deal.

December

9- Philadelphia Athletics owner Huey Fox passes away, son Huey Jr takes over.

20- The Elm Citys have traded 27yo CL Keith Saunders to the Canaries for 24yo SP Howard Miles.

27- The Cincinnati Red Stockings have signed star 3b FA Tom Burns to a 3yr deal.

This marks the end of the 1883 Baseball year and the end of a three league system. A lot will happen next season.

AA - St Louis will change name to the Browns. The Washington Nationals and Brooklyn Atlantics will be moving from the NA to the AA and The Toledo Blue Stockings, Indianapolis Hoosiers and Richmond Virginians will be joining the league.

NL - no changes

Union Association will be added with 2 divisions with 6 teams each:

Eastern League

Baltimore Monumentals
Boston Reds
Washington Generals (RL Washington Nationals)
Philadelphia Keystones
Altoona Mountain City
Wilmington Quicksteps

St. Louis Maroons
Cincinnati Outlaw Reds
Chicago Lakers (RL Chicago/Pittsburgh)
Kansas City Cowboys
Milwaukee Brewers
St. Paul White Caps

The first time I ran this for myself, I did the UA as a 12 team, 1 division league for one season, then changed it but this time, going straight to the normal league set up. The league lasted one year so it will be set up in divisions and with evolution from the start. The Chicago/Pittsburgh team was a joint effort but since i am the 'Overlord' of this world, they are gonna be starting as the Chicago Lakers instead. Likewise with the UA Washington Nationals will be the Generals instead, no sense the confusion for anyone, me included.

The 1884 year will be a very interesting one. More from this league sometime tomorrow or friday.
