Bantamweights Second Round

Tim Austin 18-2 (9) vs Johnny King 17-4 (9)

The first six rounds featured King scoring with lead right hands while Austin focused on a body attack to try and slow down the fleet feet of the Brit. Round seven was a brawl, Tim hurt him early with an uppercut and unloaded on Johnny along the ropes until King responded in the final half minute with a series of right hands that had Austin covering up. Tim was having a huge tenth round with left hands to the chin and hooks to the body when a counter right from King dropped him for a seven count in the closing seconds of the round. After two tight finishing rounds, the knock down provided the margin for Johnny's upset MD win. 115-112, 114-113 & 114-114

Carlos Zarate 38-2 (32) vs Julian Solis 16-3-2 (1)

Solis provided a worthy opponent with his movement and defense, but Zarate's aggression carried much of the bout until he ended matters with a crushing hook late in round ten.

Eder Jofre 39-1 (26) vs Boots Monroe 13-8 (4)

Jofre was way too much for Monroe, Boots exhibited tremendous courage under the Brazilians relentless assault; but Eder's precision punching was too much and he dropped Monroe late in the fourth with a 3 punch combo and iced him early in the fifth with a pulverizing right hand.

Panama Al Brown 41-2-3 (25) vs Sirimongkol Singmanasak 30-25-6 (11)

Brown scored an early knock down with a right hand in round three and his skills were too much for the Thai fighter throughout, despite a swollen and cut right eye Brown stayed the course and won a comprehensive UD. 119-109 & 118-110 x2

George Dixon 36-3-1 (12) vs Luis Romero 15-5-1 (7)

Dixon picked Romero apart, busting open his mouth, closing his right eye and flooring him with a right hand in round ten en route to the dominant UD victory. 119-107 x2 & 118-108

Jeff Chandler 20-0 (15) vs Raul Macias 11-7-3 (3)

Jeff used his jab and right hand to completely dominate Macias for virtually the entire contest, he busted open his nose, puffed up both eyes and dropped Macias for a short count in round ten with a right hand on the way to a convincing UD. 119-107, 119-108 & 118-108

Ruben Olivares 37-2-1 (33) vs Robert Cohen 11-8-2 (3)

Cohen was unwilling to engage with the powerful Mexican and it served up a less than compelling bout. Ruben was able to drop Robert in the fourth and eleventh rounds and the lopsided contest was stopped early in round twelve.

Paulie Ayala 38-2 (12) vs Elley Bennett 14-7 (6)

Rematch: Ayala TKO3

Not the most entertaining affair, but paulie was more active and he floored the Aussie late in round ten with a combo to affirm his dominance and take the UD. 117-110, 117-112 & 114-113(LOL).
