If a player gets hurt in September though I've seen this problem. The trick is to not put the injured player on the DL right away. Wait until you have to set your playoff rosters. The injured player will appear on your roster. At that time, you can then put him on the 15 day DL (will occur retroactive to injury) and replace him on the roster.

Do the AI teams know about that work around? Otherwise, they would have no way to handle this bug happening to them.
