I looked it up after your last post. Your post made sense but I wanted to see it for myself. The first thing I noticed was at baseball reference, no team even made it to 140 games in 1918.
In 1918 was caused by the war, according to baseball almanac the US Government called for the shortened season. A lot of the elite players were called into active duty. However, even though the war ended in 1919, the fighting ended in 1918. The owners chose to reduce the schedule to 140 games in 1919 because they were expecting low fan turnout. However, despite no close races, the fan turnout at games was high. All teams made a profit in 1919.

Sad thing is 20-25 years ago I knew everything concerning baseball. Today I have problems remembering the baseball history and stats I knew back then.
