It's boxing. Sadly this is the nature of the game. Some of the greatest fights have been after someone as got back off the canvas took a beating then came back in the later rounds. If we stopped all fights early we'd never have some of the greatest fights of all time.
Ever boxer knows what he's in for when he steps in the ring. I think overall most fights are stopped sooner these days then they have EVER been stopped before. I've seen a guy just throw a flurry of missed shots lead to a stoppage.
The health of the fighters is important, but it is boxing, and boxing is about throwing and recieving punches.
