Holy crap....
Chicago Iron Pigs (Roberto Martinez 0-1 4.38)
@
Boston Bombers (Pat Kelley 2-1 2.05)
The “plan” is to bring Martinez back on 3 days as well, any signs of trouble and we bring Rea into the game early. If we can manage, then we bring Trujillo back for game 6, and Hall, if the impossible happens, for a game 7.
Orlando Rios launched a 2 out 2R HR in the bottom of the 1st and after 3 full the score remains 2-0.
Kelley has gone 3-2-0-0-2-1 on 49 pitches, Martinez 3-3-2-2-1-1 on 39.
With 1 out in the 4th Ernesto Martinez singles and Luis Chavez comes around to make it 2-1. Martinez gets through the bottom half but needs 23 pitches to do it.
Hamlyn leads off the 5th with a single, steals 2nd and scores on Blakeway's RBI single 2 pitches later.
Salinad flies out and Miranda walks when Chavez singles to load the bases.
Steve Rush drives a 2-2 pitch to the gap, scoring 2 on the double and making it 4-2 at the end of 4.
Martinez gets Gould to start the 5th, and then Olver singles, Kato doubles scoring him, Woodard singles scoring Kato, and that should have been it. It's 4-4.
But the hesitancy to get into the pen kills us as Martinez stays and Orland Rios singles scoring Woodard to make it 5-4. Mike Johnston then doubles to put runners at 2nd and 3rd to finally end Martinezs' day.
Matt Tucker gets Becker swinging, Pacheco walks Lewis to load the bases and Cruz comes in and gets Bowers swinging to end the 5th, but the lead was blown, 5-4 after 5.
Kelley gets through the 6th, and in the bottom Oliver singles with 1 out, steals 2nd and Kato singles him in on a 1-2 pitch. 2 pitches later Woodard doubles, 7-4, Carlson in. He gets out of the inning with no further damage, but there's a sense we blew our chance...
With 1 out in the bottom of the 7th John Lewis drills a 1st pitch to deep right for a homer to make it 8-4, and Bomber fans are sensing it...
Munemori Nii is now on.
After Ash k's to start it, Shane Jackson hits for Vela, and walks, Hudson hits for Hamlyn, and walks, bringing on Toshikuni Shimizu.
Andre Blakeway singles to load the bases.
Pedro Salinas then walks to force in a run, 8-5.
Shimizu k's Miranda on a 3-2 pitch, an absolutely crucial AB as lefty Leonard Mathis is waiting for Chavez.
On a 1-2 pitch, Luis Chavez hits a ball to deep right center, both outfielders converge but the ball keeps on going! Chavez has belted a 2 out 2 strike GRAND SLAM to put us up 9-8!!
Bill Jones comes on in the bottom half, and gets Corey Oliver to fly out.
Kato walks and Andre is on to face Woodard, who hits into a FC.
Casas, as tired as he is, is called on to get Orlando Rios, and he does on 1 pitch.
Ellison comes on for the 9th, and Martinez doubles to lead it off, after Ash and Jackson punch out Hudson laces a 2 out 1st pitch single to drive in Martinez, 10-8 heading to the bottom half.
Casas gets Johnston swinging for the 1st out.
Troy Becker singles in the hole at first on a 1-0 pitch.
John Lewis taps a 1-1 pitch to 1st for the 2nd out.
Robert Bowers then lines a 1-0 pitch to deep center! Ash misplays it and Bowers ends up on 3rd with a standup triple! 10-9, runner on 3rd, 2 outs, bottom of the 9th..
Are you kidding me?
Robert Bowers lines the 1st pitch he sees to right for a game tying single... 10-10....
Gould steals 2nd.... 0-1 count...
And then flies to left to end the 9th, 10-10 heading to extra innings.
With 2 outs in the 10th, Luis Chavez gets a 2-1 fastball and slams it to deep right field for a tie breaking solo HR of Jake Ellison!
11-10 to the bottom of 10.
Kato leads off with a routine grounder to short, 1 out.
John Woodard works a 1 out walk.
Orlanod Rios taps a slow roller back to the mound, Casas gets Woodard at 2nd, 2 outs.
And on a 2-2 pitch Casas retires Mike Johnston to end the best world series game I've ever played....
