BNN Says Dodgers Manager Rodriguez Gone
Sunday, July 27th, 1947
In an expected move, the Brooklyn Dodgers fired manager Jose Rodriguez today. The team had not been performing up to expectations and it was just a matter of time before the move was made. "We've decided to go in a different direction," Brooklyn's general manager explained to the assembled press. "We'd like to thank Jose for his service and wish him well in the future." The organization has been mum on possible candidates for the position, but expect to name a replacement soon. Taking over on an interim basis will be the club's pitching coach.

Bevens Brilliant -- Fires No-Hitter
Friday, August 1st, 1947
Bill Bevens was unhittable today as he beat the Dodgers 1-0. The Chicago pitcher breezed through the Brooklyn lineup and got himself a no-hitter. Bevens had them talking to themselves as he struck out 5 and issued 2 walks in an outstanding performance at Wrigley Field.
His catcher said to reporters after the game, "He started off slow. He didn't have command of anything in the first three innings, but lucked his way through them. The Dodgers really helped him out by not being patient... they hit a lot of first pitches. Then it all came together in the fourth. From there on, the Dodgers never had a chance. He dominated them."
To date this season, Bevens has registered 19 starts, 8-9 won-lost mark, 4.66 ERA, 141 IP, 53 strikeouts and 62 walks. Opposing teams have hit .242 against him.
