However, I did notice when I first ticked to add the Japan Pro League it set the default nation as USA. I changed it to Japan and it changed all the cities/nicknames, so deleted that league, ticked the Japan Pro League again and everything was fine

I do that and still no players, with the exception for the 4 foreigners show up on each team.
